Ten He Was (as He Found America)...

...is my second book. Yes, I wrote it after Fifteen He Was as He Went to War was published because folks kept asking why I ran away to join the Army. So, Ten He Was covers the period of my life from my arrival in the America (and New York City), through that very enjoyable period in Westwood, NJ. It also describes those final, less kind, months in Montana that enticed me to join the Army at age fifteen (which is one of the best decision I have ever made).

To keep the lawyers off my back in our suit happy society, I altered the names of several of the people. If you are old enough to have been in one of these locales at about the same time, you will probably know exactly who they are, anyway. That's fine because most were very wonderful people (especially in Westwood, NJ).

Please enjoy and let me hear from you.

The old saying that ‘the worst of times can be the best of times’ has certainly been valid in my life. My most miserable years, those in Montana, taught me many things that contributed to my survival in WW-2 and Korea. But most importantly, the two best decisions I have made in my life are: 1. Accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior, and 2. Asking my wife’s father for the hand of his youngest daughter in marriage. She has blessed me for almost 60 years and I am so very thankful for her companionship, support and trust.

Ten He Was as he found America is about a very small, yet important, slice of my life: June 1939 to December 1944. Logically, I should have written it before I wrote Fifteen He Was as He Went to War. I didn’t for a very important reason; I wanted to be as frank and accurate as my memory would permit. I have said things about some people that are not very complimentary. Most of those people have passed away. I have met with most of the others and they understand, and appreciate, my feelings. In many cases, the acts that I viewed so negatively at the time were justifiable due to conditions of which I had no knowledge — then. These are explained in the EPILOG. But, please, read the book first before reading the EPILOG.

I was conceived in the Ukraine, born in Serbia, raised until the age of 10 in Kunming, China and brought to the United States by an American couple in 1939. For the next installment of my life you'll have to read the book.
